cardiac rehab is supported by the heart event

New fundraising events support heart health

Promoting heart health and world-class cardiac care is a key focus area for Spartanburg Regional Foundation. In the coming months, two new events will bolster the Foundation’s support for heart services at Spartanburg Regional.

Philanthropic giving supports everything from clinical innovations at the Spartanburg Regional Heart Center, cardiac rehab for patients following a heart attack or surgery, education and training for nurses, and more.

The Foundation’s Heart Division announces plans for two upcoming fundraising events:  Welcome to Wonderland gala and Hops for Heart.

The first Welcome to Wonderland gala will take place Feb. 28 at the Spartanburg Marriott. The gala will become the Foundation’s primary fundraising event for the Heart Division; taking the place of Hangar B.

Hangar B had a successful run for more than 20 years, thanks to support from numerous sponsors, donors, volunteers and the Spartanburg Downtown Memorial Airport. For a variety of reasons, all parties agreed that it’s the right time for a transition.

“It feels a little like we’re saying goodbye to an old friend,” said Dania Beck, director of philanthropy and liaison to the Foundation’s Heart Division. “We are so grateful to everyone who came together to make Hangar B a success over the years. But we couldn’t be more excited about the Welcome to Wonderland gala.”

Plans for Welcome to Wonderland are still in development, Beck said, noting that the popular Greenville-based band Steel Toe Stiletto has been slated to provide entertainment.

“February is American Heart Month, and this elegant event will be the perfect way to celebrate and to raise money to support the nationally-recognized Spartanburg Regional Heart Center,” Beck said.

In the meantime, 2019 will feature a transitional fundraising event – Hops for Heart, on Sept. 26. Hosted at the FR8yard in downtown Spartanburg, Hops for Heart will feature food and live music by Beatles tribute band Abbey Road LIVE!

The Spartanburg Regional Heart Center offers evidence-based, advanced care to address a wide range of heart conditions. And support from Foundation donors can be found throughout the heart program. Just a few examples:

·         Patients take part in cardiac rehab at the Spartanburg Regional Heart Wellness Center with financial assistance from the Foundation’s Harrison Chapman Fund and David Ike Fund.

·         A 2019 Foundation grant will fund the purchase of an Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) life-support system used in treatment procedures for patients lacking proper heart and lung function.

·         In 2019, the Heart Services Fund enabled the Spartanburg Regional Heart Failure Center to purchase state-of-the-art screening technology to help patients stay out of the hospital and enjoy improved quality of life.

·         The Harry M. Leyland Memorial Fund supported the 2018 renovation of classroom space for nurses’ training.

“Our heart program is truly exceptional,” Beck said. “From advanced surgical procedures to cardiac rehab to community education, the expertise and dedication of Spartanburg Regional heart physicians and nurses means that residents of the Upstate have access to world-class care, right here at home. The Foundation is grateful for the donors who enable us to support this mission.”
