CMC pediatrician Dr. Catherine Davis deemed ‘Remarkable Woman’ in national contest

By Staff reports on May 22, 2024

Dr. Catherine Davis, a pediatrician with Cherokee Medical Center – Center for Pediatrics, is inspiring others after she was named a Top Finalist for the Woman of the Year in a “Remarkable Women” initiative that celebrated influential and powerful women from across the country.

The initiative was through Nexstar Media Group and its affiliate television networks including the Upstate’s WSPA-TV. More than 10,000 women were nominated this year nationwide.

WSPA viewers were asked to go online and nominate a woman in their community by Nov. 30, 2023. Viewers filled out a questionnaire about their nominees to tell a little bit about their story and share the way they are making a difference.

WSPA then chose four local finalists to be featured on Your Carolina and a panel of judges selected Dr. Davis as a Top Finalist.

WSPA presented Dr. Davis with a check for $1,000 to go toward the charity of her choosing. She chose Circle 555, which is a women’s giving circle founded as a special initiative of the South Carolina Christian Foundation to fund non-profit ministries that support women, children and families.

As a winner, she was also invited to Los Angeles, California in April 2024 to meet with other "Remarkable Women" who were selected in other TV markets across the U.S. There were 112 nationwide finalists.

“We were spoiled from start to finish. We got to be a part of filming for two separate, nationally televised shows, and met a few celebrities along the way,” Dr. Davis said. "Most of all, I was left starstruck by the truly remarkable women from all over the country and will forever be grateful for this experience.

“None of the 'Remarkable Women' do what we do every day for recognition, so this has all been surreal. I am humbled, honored and grateful.”

Dr. Davis served as a military pediatrician in the U.S. Air Force prior to becoming a pediatrician with Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System. Having cared for burn victims in Bolivia and patients at medical clinics in Nicaragua, she now devotes her energy toward caring for families in Cherokee County and the Upstate. In addition to seeing patients in Cherokee County, she also serves as the medical director for Medical Group of the Carolinas – Center for Pediatrics – Union.

“It gives me the greatest joy in taking care of these families,” she told TV journalist Amy Wood in a televised program on WSPA. “You just build on top of where you are in life and doing the best you can with what you have.”
