Dr. Kristen Landy eager to build connections in Woodruff as new family medicine physician

By Staff reports on August 27, 2024

Dr. Kristen Landy’s 5-year-old self always knew she wanted to become a doctor.

Her parents recently found a note from her childhood days detailing her dreams of one day caring for patients.

“After that I thought I wanted to be Indiana Jones. So, I guess she knew better than I did,” Dr. Landy said jokingly of her 5-year-old self.

Now Dr. Landy is excited to build patient relationships as a new family medicine physician with Medical Group of the Carolinas – Family Medicine – Woodruff.

A Florida native, Dr. Landy completed medical school at Campbell University in North Carolina. She completed residency through Prisma Health’s Family Medicine Residency Program in Greer.

She said Spartanburg Regional’s reputation and her connections to other providers led her to her current role.

While in college, Dr. Landy assumed she would end up going into chemistry and anthropology for a career in research before deciding on medicine.

“As I volunteered while in undergrad, I realized I wanted to be around people and have more personal interaction with others, so I switched to pre-med my senior year,” she said.

As a family medicine doctor, Dr. Landy appreciates the ability to see and treat a wide spectrum of patients from newborns through geriatric patients.

Her approach to patient care is geared toward holistic and preventive medicine and evaluating the whole patient rather than treating symptoms.

“I want to treat the underlying causes of their chronic illnesses rather than throwing medications at them–as well as implement lifestyle changes that will help them long-term,” Dr. Landy said.

In Woodruff, Dr. Landy said she is looking forward to serving a more rural patient population to truly function as someone’s primary care provider, establish relationships with patients and treat them holistically.

“I like that it’s more of a family affair; once you see one patient then they bring in their mom and their child and their whole family because you’ve built a level of trust,” she said.

Outside of caring for patients, Dr. Landy is looking forward to marrying her fiancé in November. The two met while she was in medical school.

Dr. Landy loves the outdoors, hiking at Table Rock State Park, being in the mountains with her two dogs and traveling to Florida where most of her family still resides.
