Employees’ generosity shines during 2022 employee campaign

By Staff reports on February 23, 2023

SRHS associates continue tradition of supporting the Spartanburg Regional Foundation

As the outreach manager for Bearden-Josey Center for Breast Health, Kristy Hun understands that mammography screening can save lives. So, in addition to her efforts to educate the community and provide up-to-date health information, she donates to the Spartanburg Regional Foundation’s Mammography Assistance Fund.

“This is an important resource to provide access for women in need,” Hun said.

Hun is one of more than 1,500 Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System associates who made donations in 2022 during the Foundation’s annual employee campaign.

Employee donors come from all departments across six hospital campuses and facilities across the system, and they contribute to a wide variety of causes supported by the Foundation – from Gibbs Cancer Center, to Spartanburg Regional Hospice, to heart health, to pediatrics and more.

Stephanie Dukes works in environmental services at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care, and she donates to the Harold E. Fleming Sr., MD, Patient Independence Fund. The fund helps SHRC patients return home comfortably and safely by providing durable medical equipment and other supplies – even the construction of ramps – not covered by insurance.

“I like having the opportunity to help people,” Dukes said. “It makes me feel good.”

Founded in 1991, the Foundation supports the work of caregivers, promotes access to care for community members and funds technology upgrades and clinical innovations.

Over the years, Spartanburg Regional employees have been among the Foundation’s most active and loyal donors.

In 2022, employees donated more than $800,000.

On the Foundation’s employee campaign website, lovetogivehere.com, employee-donors have the opportunity to share their thoughts on giving back. Here are a few reasons why they “love to give here:”

Spartanburg Regional is the heartbeat of this community. … I am blessed to be able to give back.

When we take care of each other, we can better care for our patients and community.

I went into health care because I have a passion for caring for others. Giving to the Foundation is another way to provide care to others.

Foundation Senior Director of Philanthropy Shelly Sinclair expressed gratitude for employees’ contributions.

“Each and every day, Spartanburg Regional team members come to work prepared to care for those in need,” Sinclair said. “Their work is inspiring. By donating to the employee campaign, associates support the work of one another and make our outstanding healthcare system even stronger. We are truly grateful.”
