Cleveland Park Events Center 

Falls in people ages 65 and older are among the most common injuries in that age population. As a result, many seniors are unable to live an independent lifestyle.

The Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) program is a free fall prevention program that includes a one-hour, twice-per-week group fitness class where all participants work at their own pace. Any person over the age of 50, including those that use walkers or canes, can participate in the SAIL program.

Gibbs Cancer Center - Spartanburg

Join Dr. Janet LeFrancois, certified yoga therapist and Iyengar yoga teacher, to practice basic to advanced yoga with a focus on cancer patients and survivors. 

Attendees are welcome to bring their own mats, blocks and other yoga tools to the class. If this is your first time attending, a mat and block will be provided for you to use. Registration is required so that we can make space for all attendees.

 

Healthy and Balanced - Oncology Nutrition Support Group

Monday, Oct. 7, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Gibbs Cancer Center - Spartanburg 

Maintaining a healthy weight and consuming a nutrient-rich diet after the completion of cancer treatment can be challenging. With the proper tools and support, you can find a healthy balance while achieving your weight management goals.

Join us monthly and work toward being healthy and balanced. Our nutrition topic this month will be “Grocery Store Tour.” 

This unique offering from the Survivorship Program is available to cancer survivors at no charge.

 

Music Therapy

Tuesday, Oct. 8, noon to 1 p.m.

Gibbs Cancer Center - Spartanburg

The Survivorship Program offers monthly opportunities for survivors to fellowship with one another while engaging in music therapy.

Music therapy interventions can target a variety of healthcare goals such as promoting wellness, managing stress, alleviating pain, expressing feelings and emotions, enhancing memory, improving communication, promoting physical rehabilitation, sensory processing and more. Carolina Music Therapy will host this session.

This unique offering from the Survivorship Program is available to cancer survivors at no charge.

 

Upstate Prostate Cancer Support Group

Join us at Gibbs Cancer Center - Pelham or online, every second Tuesday of the month for learning opportunities and time to talk with fellow cancer patients and survivors. Our support group is a safe place to discuss your cancer diagnosis and what you are going through.

This month, Bridgette Aufmuth, with genetic counseling at Gibbs Cancer Center, will discuss genetics and prostate cancer risk.

A certified lactation specialist facilitates an open, supportive forum to talk about the challenges and joys of breastfeeding in a casual gathering for breastfeeding moms and babies from birth through six months. Meet other mothers, discuss concerns and learn tips on breastfeeding and life with a new baby.

 

Colorful Cooking at Home: Chinese Medicine and Bone Broth

Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2 to 3 p.m.

Dr. Dawn Garrison of Carolina Family Acupuncture, is in the kitchen to warm our bellies and expand our minds with homemade bone broth, vegetable broth, and a discussion on traditional Chinese medicinal herbs. Dr. Dawn is available with services at Gibbs Cancer Center - Pelham on Wednesdays.

Adding color to your plate with plant foods is one of the most effective ways to feel your best. Colorful Cooking at Home is designed to inspire, educate, and showcase how simple and delicious dishes can be!

Union Prostate Cancer Support Group

Thursday, Oct. 10, 5 to 6 p.m.

Union County Carnegie Library or online

Join us at the Union County Library or online every second Thursday of the month for learning opportunities and time to talk with fellow cancer patients and survivors. Our support group is a safe place to discuss your cancer diagnosis and what you are going through.

Prepared Parents: Infant Care  

Thursday, Oct. 10, 6 to 8 p.m.

Spartanburg Medical Center

This course prepares expectant parents for their baby's arrival. Topics include breastfeeding, diapering, bathing, and medical and safety information. A local pediatrician and a perinatal educator will lead this class.

 

9th Annual Mental Health Symposium

Please join Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System and Mental Health America of Spartanburg County in their 9th Annual Mental Health Symposium!

Our mission to reduce stigma is reflected in both our theme and our distinguished lineup of speakers. This year's program features in-depth discussions on critical topics such as traumatic brain injury, human trafficking, nutritional strategies for mental health, marijuana and psychosis and serious mental illness. As in years past, we will recognize achievements in mental health advocacy.

Nearly half of American adults have high blood pressure. High blood pressure increases your risk for serious health problems, including stroke and heart attack.

Pelham Medical Center partners with Senior Action Greenville to offer free blood pressure screenings. In addition to having your blood pressure checked, you will receive a tracking card to help keep up with your numbers plus education about what the numbers mean and ways to control hypertension.

Breast Cancer Support Group

Gibbs Cancer Center - Spartanburg

The Survivorship Program offers a monthly opportunity for breast cancer patients and survivors to connect with one another. This unique offering is available to breast cancer patients and survivors at no charge.

Research shows that taking part in support groups where you both give and receive help is an effective way to reduce the stress and anxiety that can come with a breast cancer diagnosis.

This support group will be led by Gail Ebert, MMFT, LMFT-A, CAMS-II, CPC of Illuminate Therapy, Spartanburg.

Diabetes Wellness Circle

Diabetes Wellness Circle is an online and in-person support group that supports, encourages and educates anyone living with diabetes. Everyone is welcome. Meetings consist of 30-45 minutes of education followed by 15 minutes of discussion. Please join the forum and then stay as long as you are able.   

 

SRHS Home Health Open House

Our clinicians visit the patient at home to deliver customized, physician-prescribed care after a hospital stay, illness or injury to help them rehabilitate and achieve their optimal level of independence. They also help manage chronic conditions to help prevent avoidable hospitalizations.

Our team of professionals includes registered nurses, home health aides, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and medical social workers.

 

Prepared Breastfeeding

Our breastfeeding class is an in-depth introduction that includes the benefits of breastfeeding for mom and baby. In this class, you will learn about milk production, feeding cues, latching techniques, milk storage and problem-solving tips for successful breastfeeding. 

 

Cardiac Connection – Peripheral Arterial Disease

Thursday, Oct. 16, noon to 1 p.m.

Heart Wellness Center

According to the American Heart Association, Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is present in over 12 million Americans and 200 million individuals worldwide. Join us as Stacie Snyder, MS, RN-BSN shares her knowledge on the topic.

Cardiac Connection is a monthly community group that supports people of all ages who have experienced a cardiovascular event such as a heart attack or stroke, had surgery related to the heart or are at risk for heart disease. Relevant topics and speakers vary each month. Bring your lunch and a friend!

In addition, we offer encouragement and lifestyle improvement activities. You may also connect with others who have had similar experiences. If you or a loved one are interested, please join us.

 

Ethical Principles & Site Operations: Conducting Ethical Clinical Trial

Wednesday, Oct. 16, 6 to 7 p.m.

Gibbs Cancer Center-Pelham or online

Please join us for this important discussion and learning opportunity on conducting an ethical clinical trial. The event is sponsored by SOCRA (socra.org) whose purpose is to educate researchers across the Upstate of SC and beyond. This is open to anyone that is conducting clinical trials or those that want to learn more about this topic.

Our presenter is Laura R. Holtz, MS, PMP, CCRP, Senior Quality Specialist, Yale Cancer Center and Clinical Trials Office and Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) President. Laura will demonstrate how to translate the founding ethical principles of clinical research into research processes for researchers and sites.

 

Weight Loss Surgery - Online Support Group   

Thursday, Oct. 17, noon to 1 p.m.

This group provides Upstate area support for patients in all phases of the weight loss surgery process. Combined with the help of friends and family members, this support group allows you to network with others who have experienced similar challenges and lifestyle changes after weight loss surgery. Patients who have not yet had surgery are encouraged to attend.   

 

Baby Lounge 

Thursday, Oct. 17, 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Spartanburg Medical Center

Baby Lounge is a free support group for all women and/or parents to join. It is a safe space to discuss topics of interest, have questions answered by healthcare professionals and to receive support for you and your family. 

We have an area for you to weigh your baby should you wish and an area to self-take your blood pressure. We also have snacks/water and will engage in an informal discussion. We would love to have you join whether you are expecting or have delivered. 

 

Cooking up Confidence 

Thursday, Oct. 17, 5:45 to 7:15 p.m.

Cook along with various healthcare professionals from Diabetes Education, Food & Nutrition Services, and Cardiology from the comfort of your own home.

Cooking Up Confidence is a series of four virtual cooking classes and will cover a variety of different cooking techniques to make home-prepared meals easier and fun! Recipes can be adapted to meet your family's needs. Ingredients, equipment and recipes will be emailed in advance so you can gather your items by Thursday evenings.

2024 Interpersonal Violence Conference

During this comprehensive course offered by Spartanburg Medical Center and Safe Kids of the Piedmont, you will learn about South Carolina's child passenger safety laws, the safest way to secure your child in a vehicle, proper car seat installation, when to update or replace your child's car seat and other safety tips to help keep your child safe on the road.

Attendees who have violations of the child passenger occupant law on their records can receive a certificate of completion as proof of participation. This class is only offered once for child passenger occupant violations.

Safe Kids 101 for New and Expecting Parents

This one-hour webinar includes safety topics that will help you keep your child safe and avoid accidents and injuries.

Class information includes information about basic car seat features, installation techniques and how to choose an appropriate car seat based on your child's age, height and weight.

Learn ways to avoid accidents in the home involving fire, burns, drowning, falls and poisonings. Know how to identify safe and unsafe sleep environments for your baby.
